Hobie Fleet 17 was formed in the 60's soon after the first Hobie Cat's rolled off the line in Oceanside, CA.

Hobie Alter of Hobie surf board fame was the creator of the Hobie Cat. With his ability to carve and shape foam and fiberglass these two hulled boats were an instant hit.

It only takes two boats to be on the water and you have a race... and before long there were literally HUNDREDS of Hobie Cats turning up at regattas. They rapidly filled the lakes and oceans of all California, then the USA, then Europe, Australia then the WORLD!

Local fleets have always been at the core of the all the sailing events from a one day fun sail to a week long national or worlds regatta.
